East Kowloon Cultural Centre | 'Arts Without Borders' presents: 'Playground' Multimedia Music Theatre
Description
Step into 'Playground', and no one will ask you how high you can climb, how fast you can run, or how far you can fly.
'Arts Without Borders' presents 'Playground', a multimedia music theatre production that merges music, physical theatre, and multimedia arts to create an immersive, boundary-breaking experience. Inspired by the concept of a playground, the work redefines freedom and exploration, without standard answers, but only individual feelings and paths. On stage, performers with different backgrounds and abilities create side by side; no one is merely symbolic, every presence is an indispensable part of the work. What you enter is not a one-way appreciation, but a constantly evolving, mutually responsive live experience.
Under the artistic direction of Lam Yan-kit, the stage space is transformed into a fluid environment through the use of installations and imagery, turning the playground into a large musical instrument. Body, image, and sound are no longer presented independently but will be co-created in real-time, continuously responding to the rhythm and energy of the moment, making the invisible visible, and the body an instrument. Music director Cheung Wing-nok explores the possibilities of erhu in a cross-genre context by reshaping traditional folk songs and Cantonese opera, blending them with original compositions, and weaving together instrumentals and electronic soundscapes to create an ever-changing sonic landscape.
Step into 'Playground', and your senses of hearing, sight, and bodily perception will be awakened. You don't need to understand music or dance —— just follow your body and join in the play.
